Upon first impression, many people question whether or not LiarCard really lives up to it’s 95% accuracy rating for truth detection. LiarCard.com states that “LiarCard is the most advanced voice analysis technology for personal use available today, giving you an indication if your subject is being truthful.” Well, we’ve been using LiarCard for a couple months now and we’re here to tell you that we’ve found their voice analysis technology from Namesysco actually does work and does give you a good indication as to how your subject is feeling. All from their voice!
Signing up for LiarCard is very straight forward – select your purchase amount, either $10, $20, or $40 of call time, enter your credit card information and your email address for your PIN number and your done. Once your payment goes through your LiarCard account is created and your PIN number and toll free number are delivered to your email address you signed up under. How long goes it take to get your account information? Well, we logged in immediately after making our purchase and the email was already there! So it really is instantly.
We logged in to our account at LiarCard.com and checked out the control panel where you can monitor your live calls, add minutes to your card, donate minutes to another card, view your call logs as well as your call reports and contact support if you need any help. Everything was easy to understand and navigate, so we decided to make a call and monitor the call online.
How’d it go? We’ll everything went smoothly as the LiarCard voice menus are easy to understand, however we did have a few short issues with the cal quality. 95% of the time the call quality was great but it broke up a few times for just a second or two. Sort of like what happens when you go through an area with shoddy cell phone service. This ended up working out for us, since we were on our cell phone, and our cell phone number showed up on the persons Caller ID, so we were able to blame the issues on our cell phone.
After a few minutes of small talk with our subject we began to ask some open ended questions to try to get LiarCard cranking! The first thing we noticed was the stress heart beat! Our subject started to get a little stressed about some of the questions and topics we were bringing up. The heart beat is helpful and at first we were a little worried that the other party could hear it as well, but thats not the case! The heart beat and buzzers can only be heard on our end of the phone call. Once the subject got immersed in the questions the heart beat kept going off and then the buzzer went off for the first, but not last time! Our subject was talking about their boyfriend and a recent situation and obviously not telling us something because the buzzer went off twice! We decided to press the subject on and watched the stress indicator go down as they changed topics! No more buzzers either. It was obviously something they didn’t want to talk about.
When our call was finally over we quickly went to the call history tab and viewed our report and were surprised at how extensive the report is! The report gives you an overall truthfulness level which turned out to be 85% truthful for us. However, the Recording / Honesty Analysis report is the feature most people will want to use! This is where you can play back the recording of your call and watch the stress and dishonesty levels on a realtime chart as your subject speaks. The chart is updated every second so you can see how truthful your subject is constantly being as the conversation happens. We also found it was useful that we could download the recording to our computer, delete the recording, or enable sharing of the conversation so we have the option to send someone a link to the conversation.
LiarCard also has 4 “levels” that it analyzes: Stress Level, Emotion Level, Confusion Level and “Say or Stop” Levels. Say or Stop is a way of measuring how often the subject appears hesitant to say something. We didn’t know that LiarCard was able to analyze something like this, but it makes sense, and could prove to be very helpful in a lot of situations where you think someone is holding back but your not quite sure!
Overall, we found LiarCard very compelling. We did some research into the voice analysis technology that powers LiarCard and we’ve found that a lot of other companies have invested in the technology for some *very serious* uses, such as security screening at airports. The technology has lived up to its claims of being over 94% accurate through these various studies. The real world application is something that we found to be very interesting and has proven useful for the small amount of money that the service costs.
LiarCard Pros: Easy to use for the first time, live support over the phone, lives up to its 90%+ accuracy claim in our opinion but its hard to measure something like this.
LiarCard Cons: No web interface for placing calls, the toll free number should be in the control panel, the call quality may degrade a few times during a call.
